Once both probes come into contact with the terminals on your capacitor the readout on your multimeter will start to change. Set the meter on ohm range set it at lease 1000ohm 1k.

Use your multimeter to confirm the capacitor is fully discharged. Most multimeters don t have this function though but you can still test a capacitor using the voltmeter or ohm meter setting.
